How to check your LinkedIn Insight Tag is working
The LinkedIn Insight Tag works if the browser loads insight.min.js and sends a request to px.ads.linkedin.com/collect with pid set to your partner ID. Conversions set up as events show as a request with a conversionId; URL-based conversions are matched by LinkedIn on its side, so you only see the page view.
Skip the DevTools: the free scan loads your page in a real browser, accepts and rejects the cookie banner, and shows what the LinkedIn Insight Tag actually sent.
At a glance
- Tag script
snap.licdn.com/li.lms-analytics/insight.min.js- Event request
px.ads.linkedin.com/collect?pid=<partner ID>…; event conversions addconversionId=- Partner ID
- A number, usually 6 to 8 digits
- Click ID
li_fat_id, when "enhanced conversion tracking" (first-party cookie) is on in Campaign Manager- Consent
- No built-in consent API: load the tag through your consent tool
Check it yourself in two minutes
- Open DevTools on the Network tab and filter on
linkedin. Accept the banner and load a page. - You should see
insight.min.jsand then a request topx.ads.linkedin.com/collect. Checkpidis the partner ID shown with your Insight Tag in Campaign Manager. - For event-specific conversions (a form submit, a demo booking), trigger the action and look for a request with
conversionId=matching the conversion in Campaign Manager. - Campaign Manager shows the tag as Active once it has received data, which can take up to a day, so the Network tab is the faster check.
Why the LinkedIn Insight Tag breaks, and how to fix it
Event conversion never sent because the page moves on
Event-specific conversions are sent with lintrk when something happens on the page:
window.lintrk('track', { conversion_id: 1234567 });
If that runs on a form's submit button and the browser leaves the page straight away, the request is cancelled. In the Network tab it shows as "(canceled)" or not at all. Fire it on the thank-you page instead, or after the form's success response.
The tag is missing where the conversion happens
URL-based conversions need the Insight Tag on the thank-you page itself. Forms hosted elsewhere (HubSpot, Typeform, Calendly, a separate booking domain) often end on a page without the tag, so LinkedIn never sees the conversion. Add the tag there, or use an event conversion on your own page.
Enhanced conversion tracking is off
LinkedIn appends li_fat_id to ad clicks only when the first-party cookie option is enabled for the Insight Tag. Without it, attribution relies on third-party cookies, which Safari and Firefox block. Turn it on in Campaign Manager and check the parameter survives your redirects with the click ID redirect tester.
The tag loads before consent
The Insight Tag sets cookies as soon as it loads and has no consent switch of its own, so it must only load after the visitor accepts marketing cookies. A tag pasted into the site footer, or a GTM tag without a consent condition, bypasses the banner. See Ad pixel fires before consent or after "reject".
What the free scan checks
- LinkedIn Insight Tag loads, and sends at least a page view
- Only one LinkedIn Insight ID, or a warning if there are more
- LinkedIn Insight Tag waits until the visitor accepts cookies
- LinkedIn Insight Tag stops after the visitor clicks "reject all"
- No email addresses in plain text in LinkedIn Insight Tag requests
- The li_fat_id click ID survives your redirects
Server-side events (Conversions APIs, server-side tagging) are invisible to a public scan, so the report never marks them as working or broken.
